A Matter of Life and Death, or Did You Hear Someone Knocking
A Matter of Life and Death, or Did You Hear Someone Knocking There is not really an encounter as unimportant and as regularly as hearing somebody thumping at the entryway or a doorbell ringing. Be that as it may, even out of such a typical thing, Metcalfe and Game figure out how to build up a convincing and fascinating idea.Advertising We will compose a custom paper test on A Matter of Life and Death, or Did You Hear Someone Knocking? explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More In their short story, ââ¬ËA thump at the doorââ¬â¢, the authors figure out how to pass on a thought that changes, regardless of whether they are for better or for more regrettable, are an a vital part of peopleââ¬â¢s lives, which implies that being open for changes is basically carrying on with a full life. Investigating the entry that begins with ââ¬Å"the doorbell prompts dramaââ¬â¢s base questionâ⬠to ââ¬Å"was never to be completedâ⬠1, one can see that there is more in the basic portrayal of decision than meets the eye. At certain point, it may really appear that the creators not simply allude to the torments of settling on a decision, yet additionally make a major representation for life for what it's worth, with every one of its chances that go back and forth, and the dangers which these open doors disguise. The entryway turns into a passage for an incalculable number of occasions and further choices to browse; the creators clarify that after the entryway is open, the individual who opened it will undoubtedly take a lot of obligations that accompany another associate. ââ¬Å"The guest could be a beggarman or a criminal; it could be Archangel Gabriel, the Angel of Death or an individual with uplifting news from lottery officeâ⬠2. Metcalfe and Game clarify that, opening the entryway, one will give the entire palette of life access, along these lines, evolving his/her own pace, which unquestionably takes guts.Advertising Looking for exposition on sociologies? It appears that the creators are not just indicating the systems of the twofold resistance rationales, but on the other hand are attempting to break liberated from its domain. Obviously, they do pass on the message that there are two key choices, for example either facing the challenges and going where the possibility will take you, or staying there fidgeting oneââ¬â¢s fingers and dreading the weight of obligations. In any case, it appears that Metcalfe and Game do in truth think about the third alternative, that is, the chance of waiting and reexamining the decision. Indeed, even as the creators talk about the decision being made, they despite everything clarify that the snapshot of decision is another phase that prompts a specific self-advancement: ââ¬Å"Th e entryway has become a shade that will open to uncover the following phase of my lifeâ⬠3. Consequently, basically at whatever point hearing a thump at the entryway, it is smarter to take risks and open it. In spite of the way that changes lead to the most erratic outcomes and can flip around oneââ¬â¢s life totally, they are a greatly improved alternative than carrying on with an actual existence as energizing as a timetable of trains. Appearing in a somewhat realistic manner that open door thumps, however it doesn't ask, the writers figured out how to clarify the perusers how eccentric life can be, making it evident that a decent possibility merits taking a risk.Advertising We will compose a custom article test on A Matter of Life and Death, or Did You Hear Someone Knocking? explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Bibliography Metcalfe, An A Game, ââ¬ËA thump at the doorââ¬â¢ in A Metcalfe A Game (eds.), Theâ mystery of regular daily existence, Federat ion Press, Annandale, AU, 2002. Education In The Early Soviet Union Essay Example for Free
Instruction In The Early Soviet Union Essay The mid twentieth century was a period of progress for some pieces of the world; propels in every aspect of innovation and changing attitudes had a tremendous effect in the manner that human development advanced. One noteworthy case of this was the topple of Czarist Russia and the foundation of the Soviet Union . While a long way from an upheaval in opportunity, the Soviet Union was progressive from multiple points of view that are as yet deserving of conversation. Considering this, this paper will introduce a record of the authentic time of the Early Soviet Union and of the effect of training on that period. Instruction EVOLVES WITH THE BIRTH OF THE SOVIET UNION A comprehension of the introduction of the Soviet Union, just as its instructive framework, requires initial an outline of the political and instructive framework which went before it. Russia, leveled out of the Czars, was a place that is known for incredible haziness strategically, monetarily and instructively. For the Czars, the standard of law was planned to keep the majority as abused as could be expected under the circumstances; there were constrained openings for work, prompting far reaching starvation, neediness and hardship from all vantage focuses. From various perspectives, these components can be legitimately connected to absence of accessible instruction for the majority , and the other way around. The request of the administration set up to keep the crowded uninformed and poorly instructed kept the aggregate range of abilities of the individuals at an absolute minimum, consigning them to modest occupations for low compensation. Indeed, even with the severe tax collection forced by the Czars, there was minimal expenditure accessible to help not too bad training, regardless of whether the Czars needed to have such foundations set up. At any rate, the difference in training certainly accompanied the change from Czarist standard to the foundation of the Soviet state. With the 1917 Russian Revolution, not exclusively were the individuals moved from the basically authoritarian arrangement of government they had known before to one that was to a great extent driven by Socialism , a framework which depended on the sheer intensity of the individuals to give the muscle expected to control the processing plants, assemble the streets, and wield the weapons that would keep the state financially suitable, truly solid, and ready to address the difficulties of adversaries remote or household. A key to this force, it was quickly found, would in certainty originate from the instruction of the average folks. Beforehand, the privileged societies were ensured training through private methods, as they had the capacity to pay for such guidance, however there existed a whole class of individuals for whom the books of information had basically been fixed closed for ages upon ages. To guarantee that training would be conveyed to towns enormous and little over the Soviet Union, from the soonest days of the Revolution, sheets of instruction were set up in every one of the republics which contained the Soviet Union. Along these lines, training could in like manner be tweaked for the requirements of a specific area. This ought not give the impression, notwithstanding, that instruction was self-sufficient in every one of the republics, or that there was no plan behind training. As much as training expected to show attractive and functional abilities to the normal Soviet, it was likewise intended to inculcate naive personalities about the predominance of the Soviet administrative frameworks, philosophies, and hypotheses, for it was the consistence of the individuals that would permit the Soviet Union to develop to strength over a time of a very long while. A MISSING ELEMENT FROM SOVIET EDUCATION From the earliest starting point of the Soviet Union, its instructive framework and political belief system were unavoidably weaved. One of the key fundamentals of the Soviet way of thinking, which was subsequently worked in to the instructive framework is the whole absence of a profound component, as Soviet pioneers bought in to the attestations of Dostoevsky that without grappling with the possibility of the presence of God, the psyche is in this way allowed to envision that the sky is the limit, the same number of the ethical problems which confound dynamic are adequately deleted. All in all, what can be found in the equal advancement of the Soviet Union as a state and its going with instructive framework is the presentation of political philosophy and down to earth guidance, both with the aggregate objective of propelling the state. This worked for a considerable length of time and carried the Soviet Union to the status of world superpower in a strikingly brief timeframe. All in all, the thing can best be said about training and the early history of Soviet Union is that they were unyieldingly connected, and each upgraded the other. REFERENCES Daniel, Wallace. 1996. Building the Yearbook
Building the Yearbook [by Ken Haggerty 11] Two months after really worrying that this years yearbook might not actually get done, I can confidently and quite thankfully proclaim: IT IS FINISHED! Oh thank goodness As Design Editor for this years edition of Technique (the yearbook of MIT, since 1885), it was my duty not only to come up with a concept, design the book, and make sure every page was laid out correctly, but also to steer the design process so that everyone working on the book, including myself, was aware of what needed to get done, who was doing each task, who wasnt doing each task, etc.; and after our first deadline two months ago caught us by surprise (forcing us to contact our liaison with Friesens, our publisher, to ask for an extra week), I am proud to say that we are completely on time (pending nothing apocalyptic happens in the meantimeknock on wood). That means that the books should be in towards the end of April, with distribution scheduled for the first two weeks of Maymark your calendars! But what exactly goes into the making of a yearbook? (and one so fine as Technique?) ABOVE: Heng 12, Sam 12, and Steph 11 reviewing photos for TNQ10. Although it might sound a bit generic, the answer really is teamwork. We all needed each others fortes, whether it was taking creative photos of MITs many living groups, sports, and student groups; helping Greg, our photographer from McGrath Studios, take Senior Portraits by sending out countless emails; or rushing to the office late at night to re-Photoshop entire sections of the book after realizing that what looked good on our monitor came out much too bright in the proofs. Most importantly, we needed each other to stay sane and focused and happy. Despite having psets, lab reports, and many less stressful things to do, the yearbook is something every member at Technique, for whatever unexplainable reason, decides to take on, even if it means losing a few hours of sleep each night in the final months of production. For me, the design process began almost a year ago, when last years book was finally finished and elections were held for new Manboard (i.e. Managing Board) positions. After watching our previous Design Editor, Tiff 09, slave away at last years book (a MATLAB-gone-wrong inspired edition to capture the craziness that was 2008), I decided that it was a challenge worth undertaking, especially as an aspiring architect/designer/neuroscientist. (Ill talk about that weird mix in another blog post) ABOVE: Tiff 09 showing off her MATLAB-inspired cover for TNQ09. The cover has been by tradition the starting point for the design editor: a way of encapsulating a theme without yet the limitations of the books construction or its content. After initially toying with various themes throughout the fall, including random dot stereograms (didnt work), an autostereogram (too overwhelming visually), and Escher-esque tessellation (better! but not yet), I stumbled across an idea that seemed to hold promise as something fresh, clean, and composed. I know that Im not supposed to be doing this, but it couldnt hurt to give you a sneak preview of what the covers going to look like :S Isnt it pretty? Lol. The next steps are usually done over IAP, the month that MIT gives its undergraduates off for the pursuit of extracurricular activities. Last year I took Italian, Drawing, and Archery (all were wonderful), but this year, I intentionally cleared my schedule so that I would have as much as necessary to work on the book. The book is divided into eight sections: the aptly-named Life in Hell (a photoessay of life at MIT), Journal (a review of the years events), Activities, Sports, Living Groups, Seniors, Patrons, and Endgame (credits, etc.). These eight sections, plus a small introduction, comprise the 400 pages of this years book. There are a lot of fun things we added just for this years book, but of course if you want to find out youll have to stop by our booth when it comes out or order your own copy online (HERE!). After finishing the first 200 pages of the book in early February, we sent it out to Friesens so that they could send us a proof of how our photos and designs would look when printed. We then started working on the second 200 pages, despite classes beginning, and submitted them to Friesens again for proofing. Once the proofs for both pages and cover came back, we all worked closely with Odia, our absolutely wonderful liaison from Friesens, to make sure that nobodys name was spelled wrong, that the photos printed correctly, that all the pages were in order, and that every other little detail you could think of was corrected if needed when needed. And it is at this pointthe book designed, the files submitted, the proofs proofread and corrected files resubmittedthat I find myself today, and able to relax, or at the very least, cross my fingers and hope nothing egregious slipped past our eyes. ABOVE: Kat 10, Editor-in-Chief for TNQ09, celebrates the arrival of last years book with cake. If youre interested in Technique then you should have no excuse not to stop by our weekly meetings (Saturdays @ 1pm in Room 451 of the Student Center, fourth floor). In addition to congregating over free delicious food, well be planning for next years book and events already. We also hold lots of tutorials and have fantastic equipment and facilities that you can use if you join. And yes, look for us at CPW (If you made it this far, thank you for reading! As a reward, here is an actual sneak preview of the book :) ABOVE: A mockup of the cover for Technique 2010! (not quite sure whats going on with my face though) P.S. In case you havent already, you can order you copy of Technique 2010 here for the very affordable price of $60, or you can buy it at our booth in the Student Center in early May for $65.

Definition and Theatrical Examples of Memory Plays
A play that focuses on the past as narrated by the main character. Usually, the play is a dramatic representation of the playwrights lifeââ¬âor at least loosely based upon the playwrights experiences. Some memory plays involve narration throughout (such as the play adaptation of A Christmas Story. Other memory plays begin with a recollection made by the narrator and then shifts into a play without an interrupting narrator. (Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie is an example of this type of memory play.)

Autism Spectrum Disorder And Autism - 1827 Words
Estimates show one out of six children aged three-seventeen in the United States had one or more developmental disorders in 2006-2008. This can affect the person mentally, physically, emotionally, or a combination of the three. These range from something as simple as a speech delay to something as complex as cerebral palsy. One of these developmental disorders is autism. Autism can cause social, communication, and behavioral challenges. One in 68 children are affected by autism. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is 4.5 times more common in boys. One in forty-two boys will be affected; whereas, one in 189 girls will be on the spectrum according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One of the most commonly debated speculated causes for autism is that it is a reaction from vaccines. Data i ndicates that the amount of shots given at such an early age could compromise the childââ¬â¢s immune system and possibly contribute to autism. Thimerosal, which is a vaccine preservative, is 49% ethyl mercury. Every major symptom of autism is documented in mercury poison cases. The biological abnormalities typically associated with autism also are very similar to mercury poison side effects (Ratajczak,70). Autism cannot be diagnosed with genetic testing, but genetic testing can let one know if their child is more susceptible to autism. When major segments of DNA are deleted, the gene is considered faulty(Waters,2). When coupled with other factors the autism is more commonly presented. Microarray screening only identified 8-25% of people on the spectrums genetic abnormality. Seventy-five percent of cases are undetected by screening; therefore, psychologists remain the main source of diagnosis (Waters,2) The symptoms associated with autism are just as broad as the speculations of the cause. This can partly be accredited to the fact that autism is a broad spectrum not just one certain level of delay. There is low-functioning autism, high- functioning autism, and several steps in between. Leadership Theory for Application & Development -myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theLeadership Theory for Application Skill Development. Answer: The Chinese culture has some key features that highlight the need for teamwork. The collective orientation of Chinese culture is one of the main reasons that may help the company to explore the possibilities to introduce a variety of teams in the organization with different sets of objectives. The introduction of teamwork has both pros and cons in them. The benefits of introducing the Chinese culture are to take advantage of the core competencies of the teamwork culture of the people in China (Iszatt-White Saunders, 2014). This includes common purpose interdependence and group orientation. While the introduction of westernized styles can sometimes send a wrong message to the locals as they are not quite familiar with the westernized style of teamwork. As the general manager of the plant it will be my duty to manage the plants of the organization and ensure that the employees are divided into teams each with different responsibilities to facilitate a proper teamwork. It will be my duty to implement a friendly Chinese teamwork policy that would be formulated on the lines of the westernized policy. It would not be possible for me to have a look into the records of all the employees but have to figure out with the examples of a number of western companies like Motorola to deduce the results of how much effective the teamwork policies will be on the employees. The westernized leadership approach for leading the organization is not the immediate possible way of China. The following policy will have the least effect on the improvement of leadership in the industries of China (Lussier Achua, 2015). However the best practice that can be implemented in the organizations of China differs from the westernized styles. Individualize the situation and make your decisions based on what you feel will minimize the distraction with that particular student the fastest. Prevention First Prevention is the best way to handle a disruptive student. The first few days of the school year are arguably the most important. They set the tone for the whole school year. Students are feeling out teachers. They will push to see exactly what they are allowed to get away with doing. It is important for teachers to establish those boundaries quickly. Doing so will help deter problems later on down the road. It is also important to start building rapport with your students immediately. Fostering a relationship based on trust with students can go a long way in disruption prevention simply out of mutual respect for one another. Stay Calm and Emotion Free A teacher should never yell at a student or tell a student to ââ¬Å"shut up. While it may temporarily diffuse the situation, it will do more harm than good. Teachers must stay calm when addressing a disruptive student. In many cases, a student is trying to get the teacher to react foolishly. If you stay calm and keep your wits, it can diffuse the situation rather quickly. If you become combative and confrontational, it can escalate the situation making it a potentially dangerous situation. Getting emotional and taking it personally will only be detrimental and ultimately hurts your credibility as a teacher. Be Firm and Direct The worst thing a teacher can do is to ignore a situation that they hope will go away. Do not allow your students to get away with the little things. Immediately confront them about their behavior. Have them tell you what they are doing wrong, why it is a problem, and what the proper behavior is. Educate them on how their behavior impacts others. Students may resist structure early on, but they ultimately embrace it because they feel safe in a structured learning environment. Listen Carefully to Students Do not jump to conclusions. If a student has something to say, then listen to their side. Sometimes, there are things that led to the disruption that you may not have seen. Sometimes there are things going on outside of the classroom that led to the behavior. Sometimes their behavior may be a cry for help and listening to them may allow you to get them some help. Repeat their concerns to them so that they know you have been listening. It may not make a difference in how you handle the situation, but listening may build some trust or provide you with insights into other issues that are more important. Remove the Audience Never intentionally embarrass a student or call them out in front of their classmates. It will do more harm than it will good. Addressing a student individually in the hallway or after class will ultimately be more productive than addressing them in front of their peers. They will be more receptive to what you have to say. They are probably likely to be more open and honest with you. It is important to maintain the dignity of all of your students. No one wants to be called out in front of his or her peers. Doing so ultimately damages your credibility and undermines your authority as a teacher. Give Students Ownership Student ownership offers individual empowerment and potentially has the greatest impact on behavior change. It is easy for teachers to say it is my way or the highway, but allowing students to develop an autonomous plan for behavior correction may be more effective. Give them the opportunity for self-correction. Encourage them to establish individual goals, rewards for meeting those goals, and consequences when they do not. Have the student create and sign a contract detailing these things. Encourage the student to keep a copy in a place that they often see such as their locker, mirror, notebook, etc. Conduct a Parent Meeting Most parents expect their children to behave while they are at school. There are exceptions, but most will be cooperative and helpful in improving the situation. Teachers should have documentation detailing every issue and how it was addressed. You will likely see more positive results if you request that the student sit in on your meeting with their parents. This also prevents he/she said and the teacher said issues. Ask the parents for suggestions from their perspective on how to deal with these issues. They may be able to provide you with strategies that work for them at home. It is important to work together to create a potential solution. Create a Student Behavior Plan A student behavior plan is a written agreement between the student, their parents, and teachers. The plan outlines expected behaviors, provides incentives for behaving appropriately, and consequences for poor behavior. A behavior plan provides a direct plan of action for a teacher if the student continues to be disruptive. This contract should be specifically written to address the issues the teacher sees in class. The plan can also include outside resources for help such as counseling. The plan may be modified or revisited at any time. Get an Administrator Involved Good teachers are able to handle the majority of their own discipline issues. They rarely refer a student to an administrator. In some cases, it becomes a necessity. A student should be sent to the office when a teacher has exhausted every other avenue and/or a student has become such as distraction that it is detrimental to the learning environment. Sometimes, getting an administrator involved may be the only effective deterrent for poor student behavior.à They have a different set of options that may get a studentââ¬â¢s attention and help correct the problem. Follow Up Following up can prevent recurrences in the future. If the student has corrected their behavior, then periodically tell them that you are proud of them. Encourage them to keep working hard. Even a little improvement should be recognized. If parents and administrators become involved then let them know how things are going from time to time as well. As a teacher, you are the one in the trenches seeing first hand what is going on. Providing positive updates and feedback can help ensure a good working relationship in the future.

A SEPARATION Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
A SEPARATION - Movie Review Example In relation to analyzing the movie we will discuss the theme of the film, the cameraââ¬â¢s angles and its effectiveness and casting of the actors, where they adequate in their job or not. Moving to the plot of the film, Simin (Leila Hatami) wants her husband Nader (Peyman Moaadi) and an eleven year old daughter Termeh (Sarina farhadi) to emigrate, citing the circumstances of Iran and its rigid rule for women. However, Nader is not willing to agree, since his father, who is an Alzheimer patient, is not well and he cannot leave his father in such condition, leaving the pair in an unreasonable situation. This consequently leads to Simin asking for a divorce, which Nader is not willing to give. From here, Razieh (Sareh Bayat) enters as a maid hired by Nader to look after his father, since Simin has left him for her parentsââ¬â¢ house. Thus, one events lead to another and the movie ends with Termeh deciding the custody for her, while her parents are waiting, separated by a glass wall. Outlining social barriers and criticism of inequality among the gender in Iran culture make up the theme of the movies. Starting with the first theme, the introductory scene of the film in which images of passport being photocopied are shown, depicts that the value of the people has stooped to a strings of numbers, as if they have no value. Similarly, the shot of Simin not able to have access to forthcoming travel, but is refused in the introductory scenes and not mentioned again throughout the whole film is also another depiction of social barrier. Interestingly, the other theme is inequality among men and women, for instance in regions such as Iran, women does not have the right or power to explore their opportunities or turn into a willful, independent and strong women, but Farhadi illustration of Simin shows that she is an educated and enlighten women who knows that her daughter will not have those opportunities at her disposal, if they continue their stay, as she will

Experience in discipleship programs Personal Statement
Experience in discipleship programs - Personal Statement Example Then, the opening prayer was led by the pastor who also took the pulpit from the song leader as the program progresses. The topic discuss is wife's role in marriage. As an opener, the pastor refreshed his audience about the biblical duties of the wife as written in the Epistle of Paul to the Ephesians. This activity allowed both couples to participate yet more focus has been given to the wives because the lesson was specifically for them. This discipleship program lasted for an hour and ended with the couple's praying together in the church's altar benches. The next discipleship program which I attended is a one on one discussion between a pastor and a church member who wanted to become a "worker" in the ministry. In this denomination, a member cannot simply participate in duties like singing in the choir or being a musician without being having undergone the rigorous application process. The qualification of a worker goes beyond having the talent and willingness to conduct the duty but more on having the spiritual requirements set by the church. A worker should receive his salvation first before he can commit himself to any church duty. After communicating his desire to become a worker, he will then undergo an indoctrination process where the major doctrines, conduct of a worker, and the proper lifestyle of a worker is fully and thoroughly discussed. Thus, what I attended in is a part of the one-on-one indoctrination process which is a must for every worker. The meeting started with a candid conversation by the pastor and the applican t. I was also introduced to the applicant and was invited to share my thoughts in the discussion. Afterwards, the pastor led the opening prayer. He then reviewed what was discussed in the previous session and then moved on to the other topics. For each specific doctrine discussed, the pastor read supporting Bible verses for the applicant to note. Afterwards, he asks the applicant what he thinks about the doctrine and inquires if he has any questions or objections. At one point, the applicant has difficulty in accepting a Bible doctrine and I have seen how the pastor laboriously explained everything through the aid of Bible verses. The discussion ended with a prayer this time led by applicant. The applicant and I was treated a cup of coffee and slice of cake courtesy of the pastor's wife after the activity. Both activities have really inspired me in leading a discipleship program of my own in the future. In the first experience, the pastor have explained to me their Couple's Night is considered as a discipleship program because it basically teaches how a disciple should conduct himself in order to truly follow the Master. He told me that instead of being just a mere program, their church consider discipleship as a lifestyle which should be a venue where the proper Christian virtues should be taught by the pastor. I am really impressed at this pastor's earnest dedication in following the Lord Jesus Christ's commandment of making everyone disciples. I realized that really, a discipleship program is not just a matter of following some written program but in teaching the members how to live a Christian life through

Climate Change and Trade Issues
Climate Change and Trade Issues TRADE AND CLIMATE CHANGE *Dr. Navdeep Kaur There has been an enormous expansion in world trade which has been made possible by technological advancements which have dramatically reduced the cost of transportation and communications, and by the adoption of more open trade and investment policies. The number of countries participating in international trade has increased :developing countries, for instance, now account for 34 per cent of merchandise trade ââ¬â about double their share in early 1960s. Trade can increase GDP in a number of ways ââ¬â for example by improving resource allocation through specialization according to comparative advantage or by allowing economies of scale in production to be exploited. Open economies also grow faster because trade fosters investment, innovation and institutional reform. However, development goes beyond higher GDP per capita. Other important indicators are Human Development Indices (HDIs) i.e life expectancy, infant mortality, nutrition, literacy, employment etc, Some of these factors are summarized in HDIs are positively correlated with GDP growth. But no clear picture emerges of the impact of growth on other dimension of development such as income inequality and environmental performance. Various environmental indicators ranging from greenhouse emissions to deforestation can be summarized by an Environmental Performance Index (EPI) which in turn can be compared to income growth .In the last decade, there has been a positive relationship between growth and environmental quality. This suggests that countries with rising income were able to pay more to preserve the environment. To the extent that trade and other policies can promote economic growth, they may indirectly help to improve natural environment. However, empirical evidence has to date produced mixed results on this question (World Trade Report, 2014). EPI is based on 22 indicators of environmental health and ecosystem viability including pollution, access to clean drinking water, sulphur dioxide emissions, carbon dioxide emissions, agriculture subsidies and critical habitat protection. Higher values of the index represent better environmental quality. Among the fast growing developing economies, some have improved their EPI performance while others have seen deterioration. There is a positive relationship between the EPI and per capita income. This suggests that countries with higher incomes are better able to pay for preserving their environment (World Trade Report, 2014). Environmental economies refer to the ââ¬Å"Environmental Kuznets Curveâ⬠(EKC) to identifyà correlation between per capita income and environmental degradation. The hypothesis is thatà environmental quality degrades at the early stages of development while beyond a certainà income level, environmental quality improves (Grossman and Krueger, 1993). Pollutionà increases as an economy industrialize and moves from agriculture to manufacturing (a pollutionà intensive sector). Then, as the country GDP per capita increases, environmental quality improvesà despite the increase in economic activity (scale effect). This is for several reasons- First, as anà economy develops the composition of production changes. Production tends to move away from natural resource intensive goods to services. Secondly, changes in consumption and growingà preference for environmentally friendly emerge at higher levels of income. Thirdly, as theà countryââ¬â¢s level of development incre ases, the quality of institution improves, as does a countryââ¬â¢sà capacity to enforce regulatory measures to address environmental problems. Finally a higherà GDP per capita also enhances the possibility to exploit economies of scale associated withà pollution abatement technologies (Technique Effect). Trade is an important factor affecting the relationship between growth and environment. First, opening up the trade increases the availability and lower the cost of environmental friendly technologies, secondly the greater demand by the public especially in more advanced economies ââ¬â for cleaner environment also provides an incentive to adopt cleaner technologies. For example it has been argued that multinational enterprises, due to concerns about their reputation and economies of scale, may require more stringent environmental measures from their subsidiaries than that required by the host country (Abornoz et. al, 2009). Thirdly assuming no changes in scale of an economic activity and production method, trade opening may reduce domestic pollution in the country that specialize in clean sectors. Specialization in a pollution intensive sector, however worsens environmental quality if the country does not improve its environmentally friendly technologies. In the light of above observations, the objective of this paper is to study the impact of climate change on trade and various issues related to WTO and environment. This paper is divided into three sections. In Section I, the impact of climate change on trade and mitigation and adaptation measures are discussed. In Section II , WTO and environment measures are discussed, and in Section III, concluding remarks are made. Section-I The impact of climate change is specific to location and to the level of development, but most sectors of global economy are expected to be affected and these impact will have implications for trade .The three trade related areas which are considered vulnerable to climate change are(WTO-UNEP,2009): 1. Agriculture: It is considered to be the key sector in international trade, which is highly vulnerable to climate change. In low-latitude regions, where most developing countries are located, reductions of about 5 to 10 per cent in the yields of major cereal crops are projected even in the case of small temperature increases of around 1degree centigrade .Although it is expected that local temperature increases of between 1-3 degree centigrade would have beneficial impacts on agriculture outputs in mid ââ¬âlatitude regions, warming beyond this range will most likely result in increasingly negative impacts for these regions also. According to some studies, crop yields in some African countries could fall by up to 50 per cent by 2020,with net revenues from crops falling by as much as 90 per cent by 2100. Depending over the location, agriculture will also be prone to water scarcity due to loss of glacial meltwater and reduced rainfall or droughts. 2. Tourism: It is another industry that may be particularly vulnerable to climate change, for example, through changes in snow cover, coastal degradation and extreme weather. Both fisheries and forestry sectors also risk being adversely impacted by climate change. Likewise, there are expected to be major impact on coastal ecosystems, including of the disappearance of coral and the loss of marine biodiversity. 3. Trade infrastructure and shipping routes: The IPCC has identified port facilities, as well as buildings, roads, railways, airports and bridges, as being dangerously at risk of damage from rising sea levels and the increased occurrence of instances of extreme weather, such as flooding and hurricanes. Moreover, it is projected that changes in sea ice, particularly in the Arctic, will lead to the availability of new shipping routes. Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation: There is a need for increased efforts focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation refers to policies and options aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions or at enhancing the ââ¬Å"sinksâ⬠(such as oceans or forests) which absorb carbon or carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Adaptation, on the hand, refers to responses to diminish the negative impacts of climate change or to exploit its potential benefits. Mitigation includes using energy more efficiently in transport, buildings and industry, switching to zero or low carbon energy technologies ,reducing deforestation and improving land and farming management practices ,improving waste management. The potential for adaptation depends on the ââ¬Å"adaptive capacityâ⬠or the ability of people or ecological systems to respond successfully to climate variability and change. Adaptation measures are undertaken as part of larger sectoral and national initiatives related to, for example, infrastructure construction (dykes, sea walls, harbours, railways, etc.), building design and structure, and and research into development and deployment of drought-resistant crops. The cost of these technologies and of other activities may be considerable but the benefits of adaptation will outweigh the costs. Technological innovation ,as well as the transfer and widespread implementation of technologies, will be central to global efforts to address climate change mitigation and adaptation. International transfer of technologies may be broadly be understood as involving two aspects. One concerns the transfer of technologies which are physically embodied in tangible assets or capital goods, such as industrial plant and equipment, machinery, components, and devices. Another aspect of technology transfer relates to the intangible knowledge and information associated with the technology or technological system in question. Since it is predominately private companies that retain ownership of various technologies, it is relevant to identify ways within the private sector, such as foreign direct investment, licence or royalty agreements and different forms of cooperation arrangements, which can facilitate technology transfer. Moreover, bilateral and multilateral technical assistance programmes ca n play a key role in technology transfer. A continuing debate within political discussions and among academia has been whether the protection of intellectual property rights ââ¬â such as copyrights, patents or trade secrets- impedes or facilitates the transfer of technologies to developing countries .One key rationale for protection of intellectual property rights, and in particular patents, is to encourage innovation: patent protection ensures that innovators can reap the benefits and recoup the costs of their RD investments. On the other hand, it has been argued that ,in some cases, stronger protection of intellectual property rights might act as an impediment to the acquisition of new technologies and innovations in developing countries. While strong patent laws provide the legal security for technology-related transactions to occur, firms in developing countries may not have the necessary financial means to purchase expensive patented technologies. The importance of intellectual property rights needs to be set in a r elevant context. In fact, many of the technologies which are relevant to addressing climate change, such as better energy management or building insulation, may not be protected by patents or other intellectual property rights. Section-II WTO Trade and Environment Negotiations In the Marraakesh Agreement establishing the WTO, members highlighted a clear link between sustainable development and trade opening ââ¬â in order to ensure that market opening goes hand in hand with environmental and social objectives. In the Doha Round of negotiations, member nations went further to pursue a sustainable development path and launched first multilateral trade and environment negotiations. One issue addressed in Doha round was the relationship between the WTO and multilateral environment agreements (MEA), such as the UNFCCC. In this area of negotiations, WTO members have focused on opportunities for further strengthening cooperation between WTO and MEA secretariats, as well as promoting coherence and mutual supportiveness between the international trade and environment regimes.(WTO-UNEP,2009) In Doha round, the member nations focused on environmental goods and services for liberalization. The negotiations called for ââ¬Å" the reduction, or as appropriate, elimination of tariff and non- barriers to environmental goods and servicesâ⬠. The objective was to improve access to more efficient, diverse and less expensive environmental goods on global market, including goods and services that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Climate- friendly technologies can be employed to mitigate and adapt to climate change in diverse sectors. Many of these technologies involve products discussed in the Doha negotiations, such as wind and hydropower turbines, solar water heaters, photovoltaic cells, tanks for production of biogas, and landfill liners for methane collection. In this context, the WTO environmental goods and services negotiations have a role to play in improving access to climate friendly goods and technologies. There are two key rationales for reducing tariff and other trade distorting measures in climate-friendly goods and technologies. First, reducing or eliminating import tariffs and non-tariffs barriers in these types of products should reduce their price and therefore facilitate their deployment. The access to lower cost and more efficient technologies may be particularly important for industries that must comply with climate change mitigation policies. Second, liberalization of trade in climate -friendly goods could provide incentives and domestic expertise for producers to expand the production and export of these goods. Trade in climate-friendly goods has seen a considerable increase in the past few years, including exports from a number of developing countries. Section-III CONCLUSION In this paper attempt was made to highlight various issues relating to climate change and trade. Climate change has affected many trade related areas i.e. agriculture, tourism, trade infrastructure and shipping routes. To counter the adverse affects of climate change efforts are being made by the nations. Several Climate change mitigation and Adaptation measures are being taken. WTO has also focused on sustainable development and trade. It has called for the reduction and elimination of tariff and non tariff barriers to environmental goods and services and also to improve access to more efficient, diverse and less expensive environmental goods on global market, including goods and services that contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation. The Effect of Family Violence on Youth Violence :: Expository Cause Effect Essays
The Effect of Family Violence on Youth Violence à Everyday, a child witnesses an act of violence. Not on television but in their own home. "Family and home are not havens in which a child finds nurturing and safety, but rather a battleground where fear, anxiety, confusion, anger, and disruption are significant threads in the tapestry of home life," Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing. Children of family violence are often abusers or victims of abuse themselves. Family violence is a cycle that is very hard to stop. A home is supposed to be a safe place where children learn how to love and relate to others. If they are constantly seeing violence in their parent's relationship, then they assume that a normal relationship is also filled with violence. Often, children do not understand why the violence occurs and may be afraid to share their emotions because of fear. They may associate love and pain together, because this is witnessed in their home. This could lead to psychological problems and confusion about relationshi ps. Children who witness family violence tend to have behavioral, interpersonal, and emotional problems. Some of the behavioral problems children of family violence suffer from are aggression, withdrawal, and frustration. Children of family violence are often more violent than other children (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing). Some stress management techniques that children learn are bursts of anger. Violence is learned as an efficient way to solve problems. They often model their parent's conflict resolution techniques. These children are often withdrawn and internalize their emotions. Most of these children are isolated from their peers. Frequent change of residence could be a cause of children's isolation from peers (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing). Children of family violence are often frustrated because they can not deal with their problems. Often, their education is disrupted by family violence and they start having problems concentrating at school and with truancy. Most are underachievers as a result of low self-esteem which leads to low pa rticipation in class or other school activities (Children's Services Plan). Children of family violence also have many interpersonal problems. They usually assume the victim role. Weak and unhealthy relationships are frequent in adults that grew up in violent homes. Children of family violence have trouble forming intimate relationships and have problems understanding others emotions. (Berry 105). "Each year, millions of children witness their mothers being emotionally abused, physically battered, even sexually assaulted by their fathers or other men in the home" (Berry 104). Hydrologic (Water) Cycle An Overview
The hydrologic cycle is the process, powered by the suns energy, which moves water between the oceans, the sky, and the land. We can start our examination of the hydrologic cycle with the oceans, which hold over 97% of the planets water. The sun causes evaporation of water on the surface of the ocean. The water vapor rises and condenses into tiny droplets which cling to dust particles. These droplets form clouds. Water vapor usually remains in the atmosphere for a short time, from a few hours to a few days until it turns into precipitation and falls to the earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Some precipitation falls onto the land and is absorbed (infiltration) or becomes surface runoff which gradually flows into gullies, streams, lakes, or rivers. Water in streams and rivers flows to the ocean, seeps into the ground, or evaporates back into the atmosphere. Water in the soil can be absorbed by plants and is then transferred to the atmosphere by a process known as transpiration. Water from the soil is evaporated into the atmosphere. These processes are collectively known as evapotranspiration. Some water in the soil seeps downward into a zone of porous rock which contains groundwater. A permeable underground rock layer which is capable of storing, transmitting, and supplying significant amounts of water is known as an aquifer. More precipitation than evaporation or evapotranspiration occurs over the land but most of the earths evaporation (86%) and precipitation (78%) take place over the oceans. The amount of precipitation and evaporation is balanced throughout the world. While specific areas of the earth have more precipitation and less evaporation than others, and the reverse is also true, on a global scale over a few year period, everything balances out. The locations of the water on the earth is fascinating. You can see from the list below that very little water is among us in lakes, the soil and especially rivers. World Water Supply by Location Oceans - 97.08%Ice Sheets and Glaciers - 1.99%Ground Water - 0.62%Atmosphere - 0.29%Lakes (Fresh) - 0.01%Inland Seas and Salt Water Lakes - 0.005%Soil Moisture - 0.004%Rivers - 0.001% Only during the ice ages are there noticeable differences in the location of water storage on the earth. During these cold cycles, there is less water stored in the oceans and more in ice sheets and glaciers. It can take an individual molecule of water from a few days to thousands of years to complete the hydrologic cycle from ocean to atmosphere to land to ocean again as it can be trapped in ice for a long time. For scientists, five main processes are included in the hydrologic cycle: 1) condensation, 2) precipitation, 3) infiltration, 4) runoff, and 5) evapotranspiration. The continuous circulation of water in the ocean, in the atmosphere, and on the land is fundamental to the availability of water on the planet.

The Transformation Of E. Coli - 885 Words
Jack Dildabanian Ms. Buckley Genetics 11/6/15 The Transformation of E. coli using the plasmid GFP Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to observe bacterial growth under various conditions including the transformation of bacteria; to understand how the process of transformation occurs. Background Information: Transformation is the ââ¬Å"process by which the genetic material carried by an individual cell is altered by the incorporation of foreign (exogenous) DNA into its genomeâ⬠(MedicineNet.com, ââ¬Å"Definition of Genetic transformationâ⬠). Transformation in bacterial cells occurs when the cell incorporates DNA into its genetic material. Bacteria cells that have the ability to take up DNA are called ââ¬Å"competent.â⬠In a lab setting, this is encouraged by placing the mixtures of transformation solution and plasmid DNA on ice, then rapidly transferring them to a hot water bath for about fifty seconds, and then placing them back on ice again. This procedure is called heat shock and increases the permeability of the cell membrane to DNA. The agent which the new genetic material is incorporated into is the bacterial plasmid. A plasmid is a circular deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecule that replicates independently of the bacterial chromosome and o ften permits a bacteria to gain resistance to an antibiotic. The Hotel and Hospitality Management Industry - Food & Beverages
Question: Discuss about the Hotel and Hospitality Management Industry. Answer: Introduction An organization or industry cannot work as a singular unit. It can be identified as a comprehensive body of a several parts those are serving as some of the integral parts of that particular industry. However, in this particular report, the author is providing a dedicated discussion on the importance of the importance of Food Beverage Department in Hospitality Industry. The hospitality industry can be identified as a wide-ranging category of service within "service industry" which includes accommodation, event arrangement, "theme parks", transport, "cruise line", and many other fields within the "tourism industry." As opined by Brotherton (2013) in the modern world, this particular industry can be identified as one of the majorly potential industries. With the continuous increase in the rate of disposable income among the individuals worldwide, the hospitality industry is continuously gaining ground. On the other hand, the idea of the food and beverages is closely related to the success of the hospitality industry. As mentioned by Abu Khalifeh and Som (2012) the food and beverage industry is usually defined by the output of products, but it does not include the manufacturing of food and drinks. As discussed by Davis et al. (2013) the basic function of the food and beverage industry is to serve food and drinks to people and satisfy their various types of needs. However, in an organization that is serving the hospitality sector, both manufacturing and service are important. Here, with this particular report, the author is trying to explore the importance and the level of contribution of the food and beverage department in the hospitality industry. Not a good number of scholastic articles are available on this issue. Hence, this report will be helpful for the organizations, which are serving in the same field to improve the food and beverage department to ensure better profit level. With the help of this report, the author is trying to understand the extent of influence of this particular segment on the hospitality and the issue, which the organizations or the food and beverage departments are facing, which is affecting the profitability as well as the service of this department. Moreover, the aim of this report is to suggest some pragmatic solutions or recommendations to eliminate those challenges. In some empirical instances, it has been noted that the main issue of customer satisfaction and customer loyalty is closely related to the quality of food and beverages served in such organizations. Food is the basic need. Hence, it can be easily imagined that the food and beverage department is an integral part of the hospitality industry. As mentioned by Mok, Sparks and Kadampully (2013) the food and beverage service department is a fundamental part of any hospitality organization as it deals with the systematic and the actual service of food and beverage to the customers. Hence, it is important for them to provide the best quality service to provide the supreme service encounter. Moreover, as mentioned by Kokkranikal et al. (2013) this department manages a vital contribution to providing the precise service of "food and beverage" with the help of "placing the orders from the hot or cold plates of the kitchen to the customer's table in the proper and the hospitality manner." Hence, it can be anticipated that the food and beverage department is largely contributing to the customer satisfaction and organizational offerings of the companies working in this particular sector. On the other hand, as opined by Abu Khalifeh and Som (2012) by influencing the customer satisfaction level, the food and beverage department largely contribute to the profit potentialities of these organizations. As this particular department is direct dealing with the customers, hence, it is important for them to customer centric. The operation of the food and beverage department influences the customers in a multidisciplinary order. By providing special and tasty food items they are serving the physiological need, by providing good value they are economical, by creating a good ambiance and taking care of the customer convenience, they are also serving the psychological needs. Thus, the service pattern of this particular department is closely related to the idea of customer satisfactio n. As discussed by Khorand Ahmad (2015) in the hospitality industry customer satisfaction is a prerequisite for the organizations success. Increased satisfaction level creates customer loyalty, which ensures recurring income from the customers end. Moreover, as opined by Chen and Lin (2012) in the service industry mainly the hospitality service, the client's recommendation possesses a huge level of promotional value. Hence, it is important to provide the best level of customer satisfaction to them, which is largely dependent on the service pattern of the food and beverage department. However, as the report is mostly dependent on the theoretical knowledge and reports of various previously done researches, the report may suffer a few issues with its quality of research. As primary data was not available, the authentication cannot be claimed for the data and their sources. Moreover, the report is largely dependent on the previously collected information. Hence, the data provided are not up to date, which is limiting the quality level of the report. Moreover, the report is unable to provide a complete picture of the scenario as it is lacking the feature of being a primary research report. Discussion As depicted by Davis et al. (2013), the hospitality industry is a field where the primary objective of origination is to provide customer services like lodging, transportation, theme parks, and event planning and cruise line. Lawson (2015) moreover depicts that there are three categories of the hospitality industry- food and beverage, accommodations and travel and tourism; however, this business report focuses on the food and beverage departments of the hospitality industry. Different Food Beverage Outlets in hospitality sectors According to Andrews (2013), there are different food and beverage operators like quick service restaurants, mid-scale operators, casual dining hotels, fine dining and retails food and beverages industries. It is found from the statistical data that depicts that service demands are greater in quick service restaurants compared to other food and beverage operators. All Day Dining Restaurants, Fine Dining Restaurants and Specialty Restaurants Canziani et al. (2016) describe that there are Coffee Shop or Cafe in Hotels where the customers can go at any time of the day and spend time while having their snacks and drinks. Moreover, this All Day Dining spaces also operates for serving breakfast, lunch and dinner according to the customer's requirements. In the context of the fine dining department, the hospitality industry serves very high quality of food. As the hospitality industry emphasizes on the quality of the food they serve, they use fresh ingredients and natural flavors so that their customers gets satisfied (Ponnam Balaji, 2014). Moreover, in specialty restaurants, the demands for a particular cuisine are served in Chinese Specialty Restaurant, Italian Specialty Restaurant, Thai Specialty Restaurants and others. Discotheque/Nightclub Some hospitality industries have nightclubs especially in four-star and five-star hotels. Chan et al. (2015) depicts that these sectors emphasis on Music and Entertainment along with the Food Drink. In such sectors, customers are looking for good quality of food in between their dance and enjoyment. Some customers come in the bar only for drinks and snacks. Meeting and Conference Rooms Hospitality industries consist of meeting and conference rooms for business personnel so that they can accomplish their business meetings. Banquets Conference section comes under this department of the hospitality sector. Sen and Kaushik (2016) illustrates that a great revenue can be earned from these sectors- MICE (Meetings, Incentives, and Conferences Exhibitions). Lounge The lounge is a public room in a hospitality industry that accommodates cozy seating in relaxed surroundings and can be categorized in Lounge in a Lobby, Cigar Lounge, Cocktail Lounge and Club Lounge on special Floors. Hotel (2012) stated that food and confectionary are the primary objectives to satisfy the guests. Thus, good quality of food and the special customer services provide them more recognition in the society. Importance of food and beverage department Sayed et al. (2016) stated that food and beverage reign supreme and is a prime element for high-end restaurants, fast-food eateries and catering establishments. In addition to that, Ponnam and Balaji (2014) portrays that food and beverages department is associated with providing food and beverage to be consumed by the guests for the people who demands their foods and to the guests, who came there to stay. However, not only the department is associated with the serving of the food but also they are responsible for the quality of the foods, and the goodness of their service. Department Engagement in Hospitality industry Krishna (2014) mentions in his research work that a huge percentage of 49% of the sector of a hospitality industry is obtained from the food and department sector and the rest of the 51% is engaged for the accommodation services, amusement facilities for children, taxi and limousine service heritage institution and washing and drying facility. Andrews (2013) also portrays that people opt hotel for spending their leisure time and is responsible for maintaining high quality of food and service, managing the bars and food counter along with the costing of the food. The concerned department is comprised of the kitchen and drinks prepared in the bar. Moreover, hospitality industry primarily consisting of hotel, restaurants and travel and tourism institutes. AbuKhalifeh and Som (2012) defines that there are numerous restaurants, where food and beverages counter plays a crucial role not only in the customer satisfaction but also in the betterment of the hospitality industry. Gross profitability in hotel type by food and beverage facility Moreover, introducing food and beverage counter in the hospitality industry obtain a huge percentage of total revenue. Parry et al. (2016) also mentions that in recent times, there are gambling facilities also introduced in these sectors, to make a more significant net contribution to hotel profits by serving them food and beverages along with the gaming options. It is found from the statistical data obtained by Australian Bureau of Statistics that a huge profit of total profit is obtained by the hotels having gambling facilities than the hotel, which serves only accommodation facilities with food ("Hospitality Industries", 2016). Figure 1: Gross profitability in hotel type by food and beverage service in 2014 (Source: "Hospitality Industries", 2016) Analysis of Gross profitability by hotel type by food and beverage facility It is evident from the above figure that the food and beverage help to earn a huge profit and in the year 2014 for Australian industries, it is found that the overall profits gained in from the sale of liquor, other beverages, meals and food were $7,906.9 million. On the other hand, the business with gambling facility earns $6,478.9 million and hotels with no gambling facility earn $1,428 million. Similarly, in purchases for the sale of liquor, other beverages, meals and food, hotel businesses with gambling facilities earned $3,759.4 million while hotel businesses without gambling facilities earned $593.7 million, which makes the total profit of $4,353.1 million. It is also found that both of the hotel businesses have exceeded their gross margin by a significant difference, which indicates the importance of introducing food and beverage counter in the hospitality industry. Food and drink sales of hotel and restaurants Slining et al. (2013) on the other hand discussed that people in the United States also spend their holiday and family gatherings, business meetings in hotels to meet their accommodation and food requirements. The annual profit gathered from these facilities is continuously increasing and is estimated to exceed the profit limit attained in the year 2015. Figure 2: Food and drink sales of hotel restaurants in the United States from 2009-2016 (Source:"Hotel restaurants: sales U.S. 2016 | Statistic", 2016) Analysis of Food and drink sales of hotel and restaurants It is depicted from the above statistical data that in the US the annual revenue gained in the year 2014 was $34.73 billion while in 2015 it was $36.71 billion and an estimation cost is predicted by the experts that in the year 2016 the annual profit will be $38.57 billion("Hotel restaurants: sales U.S. 2016 | Statistic", 2016). However, the profit may exceed the estimated profit limit as corporate sector invests more on this facility not only for business meetings but also for unofficial gatherings and holiday packages to their employees and other reasons. Restaurant industry food and drink sales Hotel and restaurants play a crucial role by having significant markets share among all the hospitality industry. Martinez (2013) stated that the United Kingdom in one of the greatest countries adopting different measures to improve the sales of the food and beverages to the customers for making profits. Stated by Pratt (2012), in the hospitality industry from 1970 to 2016 there is a tremendous increase in the hospitality industry in the United Kingdom. According to his work, the profit from the sales of food and drink in 1970 is $42.8 billion, which keeps on increasing at an exponential rate until 2008. After 2008, the revenue though the food and drink sale in the United Kingdom was of $683.09 billion and $745.61 billion in the year 2014 and 2015 respectively ("Restaurant industry: total sales U.K. 2016 | Statistic", 2016). Food and beverage sales in the hotels of Canada versus the United States Han et al. (2014) portrays that the sales of the food and the beverage in a hospitality industry relies on many factors and every sector of this industry should adopt them to increase their sales. This can easily be depicted from the comparison made by Kokkranikal (2013), according to which it can be between sales of food and beverages in the hospitality industry in US and Canada. The above data shows that Canadas sale is far below than the United States as a number of populations are crucial to measure as they are the primary source for the sales of food (Hall et al., 2013). The total population in the United States is 320,090,857 and 35,749,600in Canada according to the recent population statistics ("Population Clock", 2016"Canada Population | 1960-2016", 2016). The US hospitality industry planned their food and beverage counters by dividing into key areas of choice of the customers like starters and main course, alcohol and non-alcohol beverages. They also focus on seating efficie ncy, sales of food and beverages per hour, sales per labor hour, and revenue per available seat hour to measure their profit revenue that is not considered by Canadas hotel sectors. As a result, due to the federal sales tax on meals, US make a huge profit on Canada. Sales per segment in hospitality industry Harrington et al. (2013) depicts that whenever an organization introduces some facility it affects the market share. Krishna (2014) on the other hand affirms the above sayings that in hospitality industry also the room facility, gym facility, clothing services and especially the food service they are providing to their customers directly affects their market share. Sliwa et al. (2016) illustrates from the research work made in 2013 that Quick service restaurants (QSR) earn a huge profit from their food services they are solely associated with offering the food starting to the local communal. Figure 3: Sales per segment in hospitality industry (Source: Harrington et al., 2013) Analysis of sales per segment in hospitality industry Quick service restaurants have attained the profit of $23,139.7 million to $24,114.5 million in the year 2012 and 2013 respectively; however, their market share remains the same that is 35.4%. Furthermore in hospitality industry, the dining section where there is a full-time food service for breakfast, lunch and dinner have improved their market share in the year 2012 to 2013 that is from 34.7% to 35.0% and earned a profit of $22,631.1 million to $23,847.3 million in these two respective years. In the bar section, the drinks offered to the customers is increased per year and in 2012, drinking section of the food and beverages section of hospitality industry earned a profit of $2,355.6 million to $2,358.6 million in 2013; however, the market share percentage has gone down by 0.1% from 2012 to 2013. Performance by province for foodservice in hospitality industry Krishna (2014) depicts that the place and the province is also a crucial factor for achieving better profitability and thus by researching it is found that a huge revenue of the hospitality industry is obtained from its food services they offered to their customers. Kim et al. (2015) depicts that in the above statistical data, the country of Canada is taken into consideration where it is found that in the province of Canada, the hospitality sector is huge and have a total of 88,795 food service unit of food and beverage department. These sectors lead the collected data compared to other states of Canada that are Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. Hall et al. (2013) also depicts that in Canada, food, beverage-processing industry is the second largest manufacturing industry, and it earned a profit of $105.5billion in 2014 from this sector. Moreover, they also gain a profit from exporting their beverage items to other states and target markets. Kokkranikal et al. (2013) illustrates t hat their top six target markets are United States, China, Japan, Mexico, Russia and South Korea where they export 71%, 7%, 6%, 2.1%, 1.6% and 1.3% respectively. Among all these exports, the meat product manufacturingaccounts for 25% of all shipments and a total of $26.3billion is earned in the year 2014. Staffs management in food and beverage counter Figure 4: Organization Chart of food and beverage product division (Source: Davis et al. 2013) Analysis of organization chart of food and beverage product division It is now evident from the above structure that a hospitality industry plans their food and beverage counter precisely in order to provide their customers every variety of food in a hassle free manner. Davis et al.(2013) defines that every section of the food and beverage is categorized and skilled and professional workers are being recruited for supporting the respective field. The executive chef handles the entire kitchen proceedings and follows all the approach of the cooks who are responsible for preparing the food according to the customers taste. The chef on the other hand chefs takes care of the proceedings of the helpers who are a newly joined employee and learning to be the cook in their future days. Petkova (2016) also depicts that at different cuisines departments, every chef make the daily worker learn about the kitchen workers but also make them aware of the manners while servings the food to their customers. These workers are also responsible for the train the candidate recruited for serving their service in the food and beverage department. Issues facing the hospitality industry in food and beverage industry Timely food delivery It is evident that customers are looking for food whenever they are hungry or they are waiting for some of their acquaintance in the food area. Sloan et al. (2013) depicts that it is the responsibility of the organization to serve them food in the minimum time as possible; however, some industry delay in delivery of the food. These delays timing of foods have many reasons like insufficient stock, improper human resources, excess absenteeism of employee. Hall and Gossling (2013) in addition to that depicts that these activities customers engagement may affect, and they may not recommend anyone to use other services. Lack of well-trained professionals Nor et al. (2016) states that not only the food services and the quality are responsible for the success of the food and beverage counter but the way the employee behaves with the customers and their curtesy plays a crucial role in their business approach. Jackson and Singh (2015) further added that a well-behaved employee and skilled chefs could understand the customer's requirement and demands and provide the food according to their choice in order to satisfy their requirements. Inefficient communication skills As per as the viewpoint of Dawson et al. (2014), if there are no communications between the waiters and chefs and managing authorities, the exact business requirement can never be achieved and the newly joined employee can never get the knowledge regarding the food and beverages approaches. This results in the low employee productivity, creativity, motivation and inspiration in the workplace and diminishes the organizations profitability. Poor teamwork skills Effective communication has a significant role in building up a team. Yusuf and Anuar (2014) mentions in his article that lack of understanding can harms the organizations performance as the senior members of the team do not help their juniors. Moreover, Yang et al. (2015) depicts thatdue to some conflict, the senior chefs do not train the junior chefs to prepare exotic dishes and proper behavioral skills that is important in hospitality industry. As a consequence, they hurt the emotion of some customers with their behavior that have negative impact on the origination. Staff turn-over Mohsin et al. (2015) states the negative impact of a hospitality industry that some of the hotel industry hire employee in lower wage and ask them to do more work than usual working hours. Moreover, the poor work-and-life balance and misalignment with the job roles results in the staffsturnover, as they are not satisfied with the kind of work they are performing. In addition to that, the less attachment with the work affects the working quality and the services they are providing at the food counter. Unavailability of food choices Customers get attracted towards an industry where they can get more options and variety in their services. In hospitality industry, people for different cultural background and diversity come to experience the food of different origin. Almohanna and Serrano (2014) hence depicts that if they is an unavailability of the food options in the menu at food and beverages counter, that particular organization may lose their brand image among their customers. Thus, it is an obligation for each hospitality industry to introduce variety of food option so that customers can choose different food of their own choice. Lack of inventory In food and beverage industry, availability of food resources is essential, as it is the main sources for making foods and without which making variety of food items is not possible. Almohanna and Serrano (2014) also depicts that if these required raw materials are not possible it results in delay in food items that is ordered by consumers otherwise the customers have to order other items that is available with them. Government influence These are the additional yet crucial point to ponder that is not directly associated with the customer by related to the hospitality industry. Income tax rates, costs of employee benefits so that the agricultural producers especially dairy and poultryfarmers can be supported so that the ingredients like milk, cheese, butter, eggs, and chicken can be obtained at abundance to serve milk products items to the customers (Pratt, 2012). Provincial governments with employment standards, sales tax and employment standards also influence food and beverage sector. These standards are primarily affected in offering of liquor, wine, and beer wholesale pricing. Health and Safety In hospitality industry, it is important for the hospitality industry to keep the food hygienic and the entire place clean, as customers are more attracted towards the health and safety factors of their customers. Placements of part-time nutritionist and a doctor in the hospitality industry for food and beverage counter not only provide the customer to develop a professional liking towards the organization but it also help the industry to take care of their valuable customers. Conclusion This business report is based on the importance of food and beverage counter in hospitality industries. Hotels, restaurants, casinos and even airline are the major art of the hospitality industry; however, hotels and restaurants hold the significant position in this sector. People used hotels and restaurants for having foods and went to the hotel for spending their holidays; attend business meetings and wedding ceremonies not only for getting the accommodation facility for a huge number of people but also for getting them food. Thus, food and beverage counter are essential in such industries. All day dining restaurants, fine dining restaurants and specialty restaurants, discotheque/nightclub, meeting and conference rooms and lounge are some hotel and restaurant types where people often served food from the concerned organisation. This business report also emphasizes on the statistical data from the previous research made by some analysts to proof that there is a need of food counters and they helps in enhancing the annual revenues. From statistical data it is been found that 49% of the hospitality sector invests in food facility compared with accommodation services, amusement facilities for children, taxi and limousine service heritage institution and washing and drying facility. It is also found that casinos and gambling are also introduced in the hospitality industry so that high-profile people can get attracted toward their hotels. Gross profitability in hotel type by food and beverage facility also have significant net contribution to hotel profits by serving them food and beverages along with the gaming options and in the year 2014. It is also found that $3,759.4 million is earned by selling of liquor, other beverages, meals and food, hotel businesses with gambling facilities earned while hotel businesses without gambling facilities earned $593.7 million, which makes the total profit of $4,353.1 dollars. In this report, from research it has also been found that in the United States, the annual revenue gained in the year 2014 was $34.73 billion while in 2015, it was $36.71 billion and it is forecasted that in the year 2016 the annual profit will be $38.57 billion. Similarly, in the United Kingdom, there is a profit of $42.8 billion of sales of food and dr ink in 1970 and the estimation of 2016s profit will be $782.67 billion. This country also earned a profit of $683.09 billion and $745.61 billion in the year 2014 and 2015 respectively. Moreover, there is research made for comparing the hospitality facility offered by Canada versus United States that defines that US majorly focuses on seating efficiency, sales of food and beverages per hour, sales per labour hour, revenue per available seat hour to measure their profit revenue that is not considered by Canadas hotel sectors. Furthermore, sales per segment in hospitality industry in 2013 is greater for quick service restaurants (QSR) earns a huge profit from their food services was $23,139.7 million to $24,114.5 million in the year 2012 and 2013 respectively and in hospitality industry a profit of $2,355.6 million to $2,358.6 million in 2013was earned. The performance by province for foodservice in hospitality industry in Canada, Ontario is the leader with $21 billion profit compared to food and beverage department of hospitality industry in Quebec, BC, and Alberta, where eachearned $8 to $10 billion of profit. It is also found that some of the issues facing that this industry is facing are timely food delivery, lack of well-trained professionals, inefficient communication skills, poor teamwork skills, excess staff turnovers, unavailability of food choices, lack of inventory, government influence and health and safety issues in food and hygiene. Recommendations Hence, from the above discussion the major issues those can identified as the major issues of this department, are the Reduction of the disposable income among individuals, the recent trend of healthy eating, lack of innovation in the product and service, restricted use of technology, lack of efficient employees, huge employee turnover rate and many more. These issues can be identified as some of the major challenges those the hospitality has to meet in the coming future to be profitable. Hence, the author likes to suggest the following recommendations those can be proved to be useful in meeting these challenges: The organizations, which are playing on this field, need to identify their customers with exact precision. It will help them in setting the pricing strategy more pragmatically. The organizations need to focus on lowering down the price of the food and beverages, as they are the integral part of this industry. As discussed by Brotherton (2012) the global economic slowdown is affecting the hospitality industry on a huge level, as it largely serves the "lifestyle service." Now, this economic downturn is affecting the support system of the food and beverage department of the organizations. Hence, it is important the companies to decrease the price level or use a bit more strategic pricing strategy. In addition, the organizations need to focus on following creative and innovative strategies in their service and product. Most of the organizations serve the same food and even the quality is more or less same. They need to be innovative in their product line. The organizations can also opt for focusing on being creative and modern with the ethnic food and beverages. As mentioned by Marshall et al. (2015) there is a motivation of inquisition among the consumers of trying ethnic foods. By being creative with the esthetic food line, the organizations will also be able to serve modern but traditional foods to the consumers. On the other hand, it will also be motivational for the employees. As the food and beverage departments of the hospitality industry uses the job shop technique, it is important for them to be innovative in their production pattern (Mensah Dei Mensah, 2013). Reduction of the employee turnover and redundancy rate is one of the major challenges that the organizations are mostly facing. To fight this issue the organizations need to employ the individuals who are genuinely motivated to serve this industry. This industry requires a huge level of dedication and motivation from the workers end. Hence, sometimes it becomes hard for the employees to maintain the same level of dedication and efficiency. Moreover, it cannot be ignored that the compensation level is also propelling them to lose the motivation. Hence, it can be recommended that the organizations need to uplift the compensation level to reduce the turnover rate. The use of technology is also being influential in this regard. The organizations, which have integrated the advanced technology in their service, are gaining advantage. With the service of online food order, proving the facility of online feedback the organizations can provide better efficiency to their food and beverage department. In addition, as opined by Abu Khalifeh et al. (2013) the world is orienting towards the healthy eating habits in a very fast pace. With the introduction of various laws regarding healthy food production to the hotels and bars, the food departments of the hospitality industry is also facing a huge challenge. Hence, the organizations need to introduce healthy food options in their menu. Moreover, by introducing the strategy of incentives to the customers who will order the organic foods the organizations can also promote the healthy food habits and comply with the national regulations.
